Richard Amante

I am a creative, energetic, and experienced journalist, writer, and TV producer with 20 years of practice across Brazil, China, and Canada. With a strong commitment to scholarly teaching, I also bring five years of experience in post-secondary institutions and a passion for creating inclusive and supportive learning environments. My goal is to foster lifelong learning, and I encourage students to share knowledge and ask questions to learn from one another.

As an advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, I design assignments that involve attending or planning cultural events, creating collaborative and interdisciplinary projects, and revising peers’ work. My students often work on projects showcasing their own cultures, including indigenous communities and their relationship with nature and colonizers.

In my work with Xbox, I collaborated to keep online communities safe by ensuring our classification in Portuguese is accurate, context-based, and up-to-date. I have played a critical role in improving the AI-powered tool’s capabilities to recognize and address instances of bullying, racism, and online harassment.

As an accomplished author, I have published two books: the first about my experiences in China, where I lived for six years; the second, about an expedition I made from Beijing, China, to London, UK. I am also an IronMan finisher, which taught me valuable skills in time management, consistency, planning, strategy, and persistence.

With a proven ability to work across diverse cultural settings and in fast-paced environments, I am a committed team player with excellent work ethics and strong research and interviewing skills. I have a record of high academic achievement and am deeply interested in languages, new technologies, journalism, research, creative writing, and teaching.
